Kanaka Surf Club

The Definition of “Kanaka” is “Beach Boy” in the Hawaiian language. Kanaka Surf Club was formed as one of San Diego's first Surf Clubs in 1956 by local gremmies, Jim Cerone and Harold Reid along with a group of young surfers who went to school at Pacific Beach Junior High. Today some of the original Kanakas are still fixtures at Tourmaline Surf Park and lend support to all the community events at Tourmaline.
